One of our library-saavy Navigators used the computer catalog to find a book about South Korea and spent library on Thursday sharing it with the new exchange student in his class. They found a map and she pointed out Wonju, the town she's from. She told us it's "small."

I wanted to use this post to remind you that Seabury, like lots of schools, has a Birthday Book program. We invite your child to buy a book for library to celebrate his or her birthday. This year (Hooray!) I'm working on Fridays, so I'd love it if the kids would present the books to the school during Friday gatherings. Back to the books, etc.


Library's back in full swing and I've got the overflowing book return bin on Thursdays and Fridays to prove it. If the traditional book is going away, you wouldn't know it by Seabury kids.

This is one of the sites I use the most - at school, at home, in my copy editing job at The News Tribune. 
It's great as a thesaurus, dictionary, pronunciation guide (or for the crossword puzzle solver if you're stumped on the Thursday NY Times puzzle) and they're always improving it. There's a great children's dictionary, too.

We've got a brand-new rug in the library. There was quite a bit of excitement when the kids discovered it. It's cozy for read-aloud time and also corrals the younger classes a little better. As you can see here, kids also like it for free-reading. It gives us one more nice spot in the library to stretch out, or curl up and READ!

Medal Winners

The winners of the 2010 Newbery and Caldecott Medals were announced this week and, for once, the results weren't a surprise to most people in the world of children's literature.

A book many people had been rooting for, When You Reach Me, by Rebecca Stead,  won the Newbery.
