The future of books according to Seabury students

One thing about our kids, they aren't shy about expressing their opinions. For one of my assignments for a video class I'm taking, I decided to ask them whether they thought Kindles, iPads, Nooks, etc., would mean the end of books as we've known them.

This is the short video I made from quite a few minutes of footage. (That group of four fifth graders chose to forgo most of their browsing time because they got so involved in their discussion.) I think there's a lot of insight here.

Read it Maybe?!!

I can't help it; I'm still not tired of good Call Me Maybe parodies. And I love this one of course. Sorry if it puts the song in your head again.

Welcome to Seabury library 2012-2013!

I forecast a fabulous year in the library. I'm having a great time getting to know all our new students and learning about all of the kids' exciting new reading interests and abilities. It's clear they all love books.

(Sometimes a guy has to make a tough decision.)

In case you've wondering ... YES, I need help, of many different varieties. Shelving, covering books, "reading" the shelves to make sure the books are in order, even{{shudder}} dusting. I'm a part-time employee and my priority for my working-in-the-library time is usually what will get books, especially new and exciting books, into the kids hands as quickly as possible. (Funny, that's their priority for my time, too.) Any help is deeply appreciated and never taken for granted.

The language of books

One of our library-savvy Navigators used the computer catalog to find a book about South Korea and spent library on Thursday sharing it with the new exchange student in his class. They found a map and she pointed out Wonju, the town she's from. She told us it's "small."
